Cricket 2018

Summertime and another exciting season beckons for Hampshire Seniors cricketers. May I extend a very warm welcome to all our new members, a special welcome to our new Honorary Secretary, Sue Simpson and a sincere thank you to all of our Match Managers, Team Captains, Umpires, Scorers and to the Clubs that host our fixtures. Also to Trevor Foreman who runs our thriving Golf Society.

Our five teams at 50, 60 & 70 age groups all look strong & will be aiming to qualify for the k.o. stages in July/August. A special hope will be that Jan Bridle's 70 X1 can win the National title for the third consecutive year. May I also bring to your attention the Geoff Owen Memorial game in Havant Park on Sunday 1st July & the 60 X1 match v South Australia at Lymington CC on Friday 13th July. Please support both games.

Following the successful tour of Barbados last year, Helen Wheeler is planning another adventure to the cricket loving island of Sri Lanka in late 2019.

Changes are coming to cricket in order to maintain & improve the game. Nevertheless I hope the lessons we Seniors were brought up with - competition, fairness, respect, effort, good humour will all stay in the game we love.

Exactly one hundred years ago a young Private wrote back to his father from the front - "Things here are still bad Dad. When will we see the stumps pitched again?" "Not long, my boy, not long" was the reply.

Lots of runs, wickets & catches to you all,

John Rickard, Chairman, Hampshire Seniors CC
